Prospective football student-athletes may sign National Letters of Intent [NLI] from February 1
– April 1,
2012. Prospective collegiate student-athletes in field
hockey, soccer, track and field/cross country, and men’s water polo may sign NLI’s from February 1 – August 1, 2012.
Before a university may provide an NLI to a prospect, the prospect must have registered with the NCAA Eligibility Center. For Division I schools, a prospect must also complete the Eligibility Center’s amateurism sports participation questionnaire. For Division II schools, the prospect must provide the university with a current transcript, official or unofficial.
Prospects are reminded that the director of athletics and a financial aid representative must have signed the NLI before the student receives the document in order for the NLI to be valid.
There is a signing tutorial on the NLI website that takes the prospect step-by-step through the NLI provisions and the signing page.
Prospects and parents may follow the NLI on Twitter @NLIinsider.
